Case Study 6-1 Surface Bargaining - 926 Words

Case study 6-1 Surface Bargaining Based on the information provided and the court’s conclusion, the company was acting in good faith, utilizing the tool to flexibly and proactively to deal with the labor union. This is because the company met with the union at regular intervals without any anti-union intentions. Also, the company’s actions, during and after the negotiations, did not display any intentions of not concluding the bargaining agreement as claimed by the union (Kochan, 1980). In addition, the company’s proposal to the union was mainly factual and was the company’s right to deny the union control over the company. Generally, the company’s aim, in this case, was to lay the foundation for productive ongoing relationship with the labor union. The most important proposals that the company laid out to the union was on wages. The company proposed to retain absolute control of wages which is the right of the company to determine wages for the employees and not the union members. Wages are the core reasons for the formation of unions and therefore play a bigger factor in determining an act of good faith. In this case, the company’s waive to retain absolute control over employees’ wages was within the jurisdiction of the company according to the law. The most crucial negotiating techniques, both parties need to embrace are control over the agenda. Collective bargaining involves maintaining the upper hand in which the company has ensured. The Influence Music Has on Society Free Essays

Chantal Foster College writing 21 October 2012 The influence music has on society Music has been around for thousands of years. Many people have been shaped from it differently. For some music has been a bad influence, and others it’s been a good influence. We will write a custom essay sample on The Influence Music Has on Society or any similar topic only for you Order Now Different types of music have grown rapidly in these past few years. Throughout the years music has changed the way it influences people. In earlier years music was used more for celebration and now music is used to voice your opinion and try to influence your audience to believe what you stand for. Music is usually one of the highly blamed sources for the influences on society today. Many people are influenced by music they listen to. Mostly because they want to copy their favorite artist or because they feel that’s a way of expressing themselves and fitting in with the people that are into the same music. It’s also a way to find similar things to other people who listen to different music. Music influences how people act, what people do and our religion. Some ways that society has been influenced by music is, for example music can dictate how a person speaks. In most rap songs its most rappers rap with mostly slang words, so most people think it’s cool to talk just like them. Some slang words that rappers would use that society uses today are â€Å"crib† which means house and most people use that slang today. Then society talks like them and stick to talking like that for the rest of their life, and that makes them the person they are today. Another way music has influenced society is the way society dresses. For example, in some music videos rappers have on baggy jeans, showing their draws. Most people watch those videos and get ideas from it, and start dressing just like them. In some songs the artists has a certain style of clothing that looks really nice. This could be a good inspiration on society. Many people try to dress nice like them, and set a style for their selves. For example an artist might talk about all the different clothing and styles they wear and then have on some of the amazing clothing. That makes people want to buy some and wear it like their favorite rapper or singer. This is one of the good influences on society. Music can also influence the way we act, feel and believe in sometimes. There are so many different types of music that can influence society. Like christian music, this type of music influences to believe in something. Religion has always had music of some form and the songs that they sing influence people to believe in their god. Music can sometimes dictate us towards what religion we might be interested in or the way we feel about a certain subject or concept in life. Firstly Christian music influences them to believe more in there God and is a way they gain love with God. Secondly the songs are usually about joyous things and make the audience feel happy, which inspires them to do good things. The lyrics in Christian songs are about either doing good or praising God. The songs about doing good influence the listener to want to help others and show love to everyone. This is one of the good ways music influences society. Some of the bad influences that music has had on society is when music starts to talk about drugs, murders, and sex. Most of the violent acts that society does is blamed on music, for the simple fact that most rappers talk about â€Å"shooting† or â€Å"fighting† their enemies. Brave New World and The Giver Similar yet Differe Essay Example For Students

Brave New World and The Giver: Similar yet Differe Essay nt When one examines the similarities between Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, and The Giver by Lois Lowry, they may be baffled. They may think that Lowry just did a run off of Huxleys highly successful masterpiece. The similarities are extraordinary, but so are their differences. Many aspects of these novels are almost identical while others are completely foreign to each other. Both of these novels feature structure societies, but the societies are not the same. In Brave New World, there are no families or definite partners, but neither society believes in love or true family. The Giver has no specific caste system, but the members of their community do not have control of their own future; that is left to the elders. Lastly are Jonas and John. They are basically the main characters and both endure severe inner troubles, but are they similar enough to make the novels similar? In Brave New World, there is definitely a caste system of community members. Each level of society keeps to themselves. They work and live according to how they were conditioned. They do not have a certain ordinance on manners or behavior; they are promiscuous and, for the most part, outgoing. The characters in Brave New World do not know the meaning of the world love. They do not have the slightest inkling of what it is like to have a family; the idea of parents and childbirth repulse them. The Giver has a society that believes in having families for stability, but they do not believe in love. The word is broad and meaningless. When Jonas asked his parents if they loved him, they laughed and told him to be more specific because language is everything. Do they enjoy him? Yes. Are they proud of him? Yes. But do not use the word love! On the issue of childbirth, they see it as a profession without honor. They do not have their own children, their children are chosen for them. They do not grow up with their families for long; when they turn a certain age, the contact with their parents comes to an end. The characters in Brave New World live happily (and stupidly) in their own little caste systems. They are completely oblivious to anything outside their own little worlds. They are put into a profession according to their caste system and their conditioning. They know nothing about any other job in the community; they do not even know the reason for what they do, they just do it. They have absolutely no say in what they want to be or where they want to fit in. They are conditioned and trained from their beginning to do what they were made to do. The Giver portrays a bit more freedom during job selection. When the children reach the age of eight, they are given four years of volunteer work before their jobs are selected. The elders take into deep consideration the choices of volunteer work that the children have chosen. They attempt to make conscious choices of careers for the twelve-year-olds. The elders make almost every choice that needs to be made in the community. In Brave New World, Mustafa Mond makes the ultimate choices. When reading Brave New World, one will quickly realize that John become the main character. One is able to relate more to John than any other character in the book. He is stricken with inner struggles that may be unimaginable to modern society. He does not know whether or not to conform to his new surroundings or to follow the ways of his past life on the savage reservation. He is overwhelmed by all of the curiosity and is unable to communicate his problems to anyone who would understand. His emptiness and feelings of guilt drive him to suicide. In The Giver, Jonas is plagued by almost the same problems. The Scottsboro Trials Essay He knows too much and is forbidden to share his problems and feelings with anyone but the Giver. Jonas feels that he is too young and immature to endure all of this personal struggle and forgotten memories. He wants to be released without being released by societys way. .

Neglect Poem Analysis free essay sample

Smith explains the feelings of neglect by using imagery, metaphor, and connotation. This poem talks about a path of neglect that a man followed that led to the destruction of his red apple tree. The narrator put too much of his time and attention on his other marvels to not put it into the apple tree as well. Therefore his red apple tree, though thought to be inevitable, died and filled the narrator with regret. A regret that appears to haunt the author, and fills him with sorrow. One of the literacy devices used in â€Å"Neglect† is imagery. Towards the beginning of the poem, the author uses it in the following quote, â€Å" skew the sap’s / passage, blacken leaves, dry the bark and heart† (lines 5-6). This quote is an example imagery because it explains what the author sees and how it affects him. It contributes to the poem because it gives the reader a feeling, in the beginning, of how the author sees this tragedy and prepares the reader for his thoughts throughout the rest of the poem. We will write a custom essay sample on Neglect Poem Analysis or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page A second example of imagery is towards the end, â€Å" What remains is this armload of apple wood/ now feeding the stove’s smolder† (14-15). This is an example of imagery because it lets you picture the sad end to the life of the apple tree and helps the narrator get the message thru in a satisfying manner. It contributes to the poem because it lets the reader connect to how the tree will no longer be there and how the narrator won’t be able to have that bond that he had with the apple tree for the last several decades. A second literacy device used is metaphor, which the author uses several times to add emphasis to the subject. The first example is, â€Å"†¦and watched each branch with a goshawk’s eye†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (line 8). This quote is a metaphor because it explains how he could have watched the tree more closely, comparing his sight to a â€Å"goshawk† and having a more keen vision on the tree. It contributes to the poem because it shows the neglect that he put upon the tree, and lets the reader know that the author knows he could have put more time into the tree, and that the death would have not happened. A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, â€Å"Smoke is all, †¦ ,/ I’ve been given to remember† (21-22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the â€Å"smoke† to death and how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It connects with the meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it will eventually disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be left to remember it by is the â€Å"smoke† that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found throughout the poem is connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is, â€Å"Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (1-4). The word â€Å"smoke† in this poem is a connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every quote the author has it in it brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death was on the verge for his loved apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the mood from what seemed to be the author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was throughout the poem. It kept reminding the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and the author’s sadness. The second connotation is later in the same sentence, â€Å"†¦ of the Red Delicious I brought down†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (1-4). The phrase â€Å"Red Delicious† is said twice in this poem and is a connotation because it carries a tone of happiness and joy. The first time it is used, it is used in place of the word tree and it shows the joy that the tree had brought him, before the â€Å"smoke† had brought it down. The second time it is used it is used towards the end (23), after all the sorrow that was brought throughout the poem, he uses it one more time to remind the readers of the joy and happiness that resulted from that tree, how he will miss it, and how the â€Å"smoke† tore them apart. â€Å"Red Delicious† brings out a little happiness in the poem, and brings out a new tone for several seconds while reading it. R. T Smith wrote the poem â€Å"Neglect† portraying metaphor, imagery, and connotation. He used metaphors in the poem to use comparisons on how he could have put more time into his apple tree and not neglected it as much. He uses imagery to connect the reader to the poem and feel what the author is feeling. Lastly, connotation is used in the words â€Å"smoke†, and â€Å"Red Delicious† to portray sadness and happiness throughout the poem and connect more with the author’s feelings. The â€Å"Red Delicious† is gone forever and the only thing left is the sadness of â€Å"smoke†.

8 Steps to More Concise Writing

8 Steps to More Concise Writing 8 Steps to More Concise Writing 8 Steps to More Concise Writing By Mark Nichol You know you must streamline your writing, but the devil’s in the details. Here are some specifics about what to look for: 1. Remove Redundancy Avoid double-teaming terms like â€Å"a period of one week,† â€Å"end result,† â€Å"free gift,† and â€Å"personal opinion.† Watch for phrases that echo the quality in question: â€Å"oval in shape,† â€Å"larger in size,† â€Å"shorter in duration,† and the like. Omit redundant words that are already implied as part of an abbreviated term, such as machine in â€Å"ATM machine.† 2. Reduce Phrases to Words Replace a descriptive phrase following a noun with a one-word adjective that precedes the noun: â€Å"People who experienced at traveling know better than to label their luggage,† for example, can be revised to â€Å"Experienced travelers know better than to label their luggage. A modifying phrase, similarly, can be reduced to a simple adverb: â€Å"Sympathizing with her concerns, he nodded in response to her complaint,† for instance, is more concisely expressed as â€Å"He nodded sympathetically in response to her complaint.† Delete extraneous phrases such as â€Å"which is† and â€Å"who were,† as shown here: â€Å"We drove down Lombard Street, which is considered the crookedest street in the world† is easily simplified to â€Å"We drove down Lombard Street, considered the crookedest street in the world.† 3. Omit Gratuitous Intensifiers and Qualifiers Use adverbs that intensify or qualify in moderation: â€Å"They had an extremely unpleasant experience† isn’t accurate unless a subsequent explanation justifies the intensifier extremely, and â€Å"I was somewhat taken aback† isn’t necessarily an improvement on â€Å"I was taken aback.† 4. Expunge Expletives â€Å"There are† or â€Å"there is† is a weak way to start a sentence. â€Å"There is a telling passage toward the end of the story† lacks the focus of (and the more vivid verb in) the sentence â€Å"A telling passage occurs near the end of the essay.† 5. Negate Nominalizations â€Å"The report gave an analysis of the accident† uses a phrase where a single word suffices. (This is known as a nominalization, or smothering a verb.) When you see a â€Å"(verb) a/an (noun)† construction, convert the noun into a verb and replace the phrase with it. In this case, â€Å"The report analyzed the accident† is the more concise result. As with deletion of expletives, a stronger verb is an additional benefit. 6. Delete Superfluous Phrases â€Å"At the present time,† â€Å"for all intents and purposes,† and â€Å"in the event that† are just a few of many meaningless phrases that clutter sentences. Trim them to tighten your writing. 7. Avoid Cliches Likewise, â€Å"face the music,† â€Å"litmus test,† â€Å"tried and true† and other timeworn phrases add nothing to your writing but words; they’re useful only for padding a word count, but instructors and editors (and readers) will notice. 8. Eschew Euphemisms Generally, words that disguise concepts degrade language, which is all about expressing, not repressing, meaning. For example, â€Å"collateral damage,† in reference to warfare (and, by extension, to all interpersonal relationships), invites derision. However, use of some euphemisms, such as those for human disabilities, is a well-meaning effort to preserve the dignity of the disabled, though some people argue that such cosmetic wording actually harms people by diminishing the seriousness of their condition, or that it is for the benefit not of the disabled but of people who would rather not be reminded of the disabled. Factors that motivate Chinese students to study in the Uk Essay

Factors that motivate Chinese students to study in the Uk - Essay Example The aim of the present study is to investigate the factors that motivate Chinese student study to study in the UK. In order to understand the factors motivating Chinese students to study in the UK more clearly, the NCUK institution in Beijing will be used as a case study. Background of the Study Higher education has become an increasingly significant area of society in recent times, and higher education is likely to expand further in the 21st century. The 21st century might ultimately be known as the century of education. Numerous scholars view the arrival of an educated society, e.g. Unit Kingdom, Finland, Norway. Growth continues in a number of the world’s higher education systems, with predictions that millions of students will enter postgraduate educational institutions around the world in the next two decades, with most of that expansion occurring in the developing world. The last few decades of the 20th century witnessed considerable escalation in student mobility. The e xistence of international students on university campuses across different countries has increased over the past few years. Chinese students represent one of the biggest groups amongst international students in the United Kingdom (Altbach & Teichler, 2001). Due to a dramatic change in the policies of the Chinese government over the past few decades, a developing country has grown into as a super power (Wang, 2007). This development has come together with important reforms in higher education aimed at playing an important role in modernizing China (Zhang, 2007). The Open Door Policy taken up in 1978, which promoted foreign investment in China, allowed dual exchanges in education, firstly, teachers could go into foreign institutes of higher education to enhance the quality of their teaching, and secondly, a number of Chinese students could go abroad to study for higher degrees (Knight & DeWit, 1995). Since then, several impressive reforms in Chinese higher education have both altered the lives of many Chinese students and scholars. Since the pat two decades, education in China has been internationalized due to increase in globalization. This internationalization comprises a number of different activities, such as student and teacher exchange, specialized studies, technological assistance, the education of international students, and joint research programmes. China has become one of the world’s biggest exporters of students around the globe. Recent there are different researches to study the internationalization of higher education on various perspective, a number of which have been carried out in developed countries (Altbach & Teichler, 2001). China is the biggest supplier of international students around the world (Altbach & Knight, 2007). In recent decades, more and more Chinese students have been educated abroad for graduate degrees, with a number of graduate students studying in the United Kingdom (Mackie, 2007). The notion of gainning graduate degre es in British universities is broadly connected to the internationalization of higher education in China, as well as to the globalization of the Chinese society (Altbach & Knight, 2007). In order to achieve the dream of graduating from a foreign university, more specifically, the UK, there are a number of factors that influence students’ decision-making process. Researchers have discovered that family influence is a significant factor in overseas study decisions (Shanka, Quintal & Taylor, 2005). The opinions of family members might exercise various kinds of influence up on an individual’s behavior (Shanka, Quintal & Taylor, 2005). This is mainly because the nuclear familiar (single child policy) is small, parents have to finance the education

And being extraordinary requires proper goal setting. Achieving a goal that a person sets is not that easy. We need focus on it, and some proper actions necessary for it to come true. But most of the time, certain factors affect the way a person would handle situations like this. When one is afraid of something, his/her tendency is to avoid that stimulus. If that stimulus might be involved in achieving that person’s goals, having a fear in it will result to failure in reaching that goal. In most cases, people tend to insecure; or rather afraid to exert full effort in reaching their goals is the fear of failing. Most people are afraid of being humiliated, or being the ‘least’ in a group. When we learn to let go of these fears inside us, then we can feel confident to do anything that we love without thinking about the negative consequences. For example, some people are afraid to make friends with others because they fear that they might be rejected. Come to think of it, if this person put his fear aside, then he or she can gain friends. In this case, fear can sometimes be seen as a negative feeling because it prevents you from doing something good or achieving something great. Thus, if I put my fears aside, I can organize my fellow youths in calling for eradicating hunger around the world. I think I could do something great like that. Although I am just an ordinary person, I think I can convince people in my community that world hunger is a grave problem that needs our attention. Children are dying in Africa because of hunger. Believe it or not, there are even hungry children in the United States, who are not receiving enough nutritious food. With regards to my dream, I think my greatest strength is perseverance and I can use this in order to research startling facts that might trigger the emotions of people in joining this advocacy. I will first organize my friends and family because I think they simply the people who would care to hear my thoughts about this issue. After that, I will seek the help of experts that will expand my knowledge on how I could start achieving this dream. For example, I will seek the help of a nutritionist on what foods should be served daily in school cafeteria. Then, we will inform the school cafeterias in our communities to serve food that is balanced enough for our kids. I can also establish a feeding program in our community to help serve the poor and needy children within our midst. The next step would be to write letters of appeal to the government and large corporations to convince them in joining our cause. If we can garner enough funds, we can now help the children of Africa in their plight against hunger. In my own little way, I can say that this idea can help change the world. I realized that what we need is proper handling of our fears. In my case, if I weren’t afraid of anything, I would have the courage to do anything I want, without thinking of the circumstances that might happen with what I’m going to do. Since fear is the limiting factor, eliminating it might give me a better chance into reaching my goals. Eliminating world huger is such a big goal. This goal requires patience, and focus – characteristics which I do have. I see myself as one who would change the world, and make it a healthier place to live in. I see myself as one who would establish an institution that would help people realize that world hunger exists and we need to help each other eradicate it.

Do you understand? :: Essays Papers

Do you understand? There are many bases of discrimination. Some people are treated unfairly because of gender, race, religion, language, weight, education, height, etc. Stay with me as I ask the question, "Do you understand?" Do you understand what it is like to be treated unfairly because of how you look? Do you understand how it feels to go to a restaurant to eat, only to be told that "people of your color are not allowed to eat here"? Do you understand how it feels not to be allowed to sleep in a hotel because of your color? "Kaffirs are not allowed to sleep in this hotel," said the hotel manager to my cousin Jabu. Perhaps you don't understand how it feels to be made into an issue instead of a human being. Well, I understand. I know how hurtful it felt when I was told, "Boy! People of your color do not swim in this part of the ocean. It is reserved for Whites only. Go away from here." I know what it is like to pay taxes yet be denied the right to vote. I know what it is like to apply for a job and to be told that the jobs are reserved for whites only. Dr. Verwoed, the former South African President, was once quoted as saying, "Blacks are inferior from birth to death." Don't you think it is depressing to be treated as less than a human being in your own country? You see, education for Africans in South Africa is inferior. It has made Africans slaves of circumstances instead of masters of circumstances. I know you will be astounded to learn that Africans pay more for their inferior education than whites pay for their education. If one would write a paper like this, that person would be making an open invitation to be jailed without trial. Discrimination of any kind is evil, whether it is about race, gender, religion, language, education, etc. I cannot change my color. I had no say in the matter when I was formed. I love my country. I abhor the system. I refuse to be the target of all injustices because of my color.

Financial Engineering Essay

University of Stratchclyde is amongst one of the top ranking universities in the United Kingdom. The university is located right at the heart of Glasgow, Scotland’s biggest and most cosmopolitan city. The University of Stratchclyde was founded in 1796 when John Anderson, Professor of Natural philosophy at Glasgow University left instructions in his will to establish a university which should be a place for useful learning for everyone. His vision was realized when Anderson’s university opened later in the same year he died. The university developed rapidly since its inception and by the 1890s, had become a major technological institution with a wide reputation for research and learning. This rapid expansion meant that there was a need of raising more finances for opening up a new building for the university. For this purpose, a fundraising campaign was started by the governors and as a result a, the Glasgow and West of technical college building, now the Royal College Building was opened in George street(strath. ac. uk. ,n. d. ). The primary focus was on science and engineering, though it also offered some courses in management. The college was known for producing some of the best scientists and engineers of its time. In 1964, the Royal College was granted the Royal Charter and thus became the University of Strathclyde. In 1993, the University of Strathclyde merged with Jordan hill College of Education, which is Scotland’s Premier teacher training college(strath. ac. uk. , n. d). This new faculty offers teacher training alongside courses such as speech and language pathology, social work, sport and outdoor education. At the time the University received its Royal Charter, it had some 4,000 full-time students and only a single block of buildings fronted by the Royal College. Today University of Strathclyde has become the third largest university in Scotland.

Best Buy Co., Inc: Sustainable Customer Centricity Model Essay

Best Buy is the largest national electronics chain and the only one that remains since the closing of Circuit City in 2009 and Comp USA before that. Founded in St Paul, Minnesota in 1966 as the Sound of Music Store, it was rebranded as Best Buy in 1983 with a single flagship store in Burnsville, Minnesota. By 1993, Best Buy had become the United States second-largest consumer electronics retailer, breaking into Fortune magazine’s annual ranking of top 500 companies two years later at number 373. A partnership with Microsoft in 1999 help to boost the company’s profile and lead to the opening of its first retail store in Shanghai which was followed by stores in Canada, Mexico, Turkey, and nine European countries (Lowe, 2008 May 8). Best currently operates 1,105 big box stores in the United States. In addition to personal computers, computer equipment, and consumer video and audio products, Best Buy outlets, which are on average 44,000 square feet in size, also offer large and small appliances, and entertainment software that includes DVD’s, compact discs, video games, and computer software (Funding Universe, n.d.). Best Buy’s subsidiaries include Geek Squad, Magnolia Audio Video, Pacific Sales, and in Canada, it operates under both the Best Buy and Future Shop labels. Best Buy differentiates itself from its closest competitors, Walmart and Amazon.com, by not focusing on low cost products but by switching from an aggressive commission-based system of service to highly trained sales associates and service solutions. Having a well-trained staff who can educate the customers regarding product features, allows the customer to make informed buying decisions on big-ticket items. In addition, with Geek Squad capabilities available in-store, Best Buy is able to provide installation services, product repair and on-going support for these or other items the customer purchases (Hill & Jones, 2013, pC22). This end-to-end solution is one aspect that separates Best Buy from its competitors. This is also one of the many strengths Best Buy currently possess’. Best Buy’s customer centricity approach is key in its survival and is something often missing from their competitors. Best Buy takes the time to understand who its customer is and what they need. They then took this information and started selling solutions instead of just products. Best buy also changed the layout of the store based on customer feedback. This included bundling together related products, offering installation help for all electronics, and improving store productivity by adding more technology experts to the sales floor and deploying touch screen monitors with product information. Future plans also include a 10% reduction in US square footage over the next 3 to 5 years. A reduced floor plan will not only be more cost efficient but will provide an overall easier shopping experience for the customer (Briggs, 2011 April 14). Customer centricity is necessary in today’s competitive market and it is a concept Best Buy continues to excel at. One of Best Buy’s weaknesses includes the decline of net income and operating margins. Although this could be a function of increased costs, it is more likely due to pricing pressure (Hill & Jones, 2013, pC20). The economic decline and consumer pressure has forced the prices of consumer electronic products to be lowered. This decrease in prices has caused the decline in margins which negatively affect net income and operating margins. Another area of concern is the increase in accounts receivable and inventory. Best Buy had a 1% increase in inventory from 2008 to 2009 and a 12.5% increase in revenue accompanied by a 240% increase in accounts receivable (Hill & Jones, 2013, pC20). This creates a potential risk for losses due to bad debts. Best Buy is weak in their ability to quickly adjust inventory level to the demand, in order to reduce costs related to inventory. Best Buy did not recognize the economic downturn and was not successful in adjusting their inventory levels (Sien na College, 2009 April 17). This is an area for improvement for Best Buy as the economic downturn has created an oversupplied market. Best Buy’s best opportunities lie in their series of acquisitions into their Best Buy family. Best has gained valuable experience in the process of integrating new companies and service providers with their keen ability to know where to expand and is a key component in their ability to differentiate their company from others in the marketplace (Hill & Jones, 2013, pC23). Best Buy also has room for opportunities as they have expanded upon their global presence. This global presence exceeded expectation late in 2009 with a 15% uptick in international sales. European stores experienced a 4% gain in same store sales, while Best Buy’s China store sales jumped 34% (Lindner, 2010 March 25). This global presence also opens up opportunities to trace global technology trends first hand and opens the door to newly developing markets. It also provides a wide range of places to test and introduce new products and analyze customer needs. Best Buy faces many threats beginning with the economic decline. Today’s customer has less disposable income and Best Buy sells luxury goods and not necessity items. The future of the economy including consumer confidence, unemployment, tax rates, fuel costs, and the availability of consumer credit are all factors that could affect consumer spending and Best Buys earnings. Another concern for Best Buy is increased competition particularly from online competitors like Amazon.com. Amazon has an advantage over Best Buy because they are able to maintain a lower cost structure compared to a brick and mortar store like Best Buy and can push those savings through to their product pricing and selection. With an increasing trend in the consumer electronics industry to shop online, Amazon.com is positioned perfectly to maintain strong market growth and potentially steal some market share away from Best Buy (Hill & Jones, 2013, pC22). Best Buy will have to continue to differentiate themselves from their internet competitors with their unmatched customer centered model of business. Based on the findings of the SWOT analysis, Best Buy should continue to develop and implement their customer centricity model. This customer based model creates better customer satisfaction, promotes growth, and creates a unique experience. On the other side, Best Buy needs to address their decline in net operating income. This means cashing in on opportunities such as expanding their global presence which has had much success in generating profits. Best Buy should also be conscientious of their inventory levels in comparison to revenue increase. They need to adjust for the economic downturn while continuing to offer a good mix of products accompanied with superior service. Best Buy needs to stay on top of technology trends in order to keep up with online sales threats from Amazon.com and others. Best Buy’s focus should be on the continual improving of the in-store shopping experience that currently differentiates them from competitors like Amazon. This means added customer service, technology experts, and services that take the customer from the initial purchase all the way through installation and use. Best Buy’s corporate level strategy revolves around their customer centricity model and is the core of their company mission and goals. To implement this strategy and achieve a competitive advantage, Best Buy maintains a wide variety of products to meet customer needs but also goes beyond the initial sale into service offerings. Best Buy has used their customer centricity model, which is built around a significant database of customer information, to construct a diversified portfolio of product offerings (Hill & Jones, 2013, pC22). This vital database allows Best Buy to structure customer needs to the locations they are requested, which in turn helps keep costs lower by shipping the correct inventory to the correct locations. This is important because it helps to offset the extra costs required to provide high-level training to sales associates and service professionals. This structuring of inventory is a large part of their business-level strategy and is advantageous for Best Buy because each market contains the products most desired and avoids items not sought after by customers. Best Buy’s customer based structure is only as strong as their greatest service professional and staff member. Best Buy recognizes this and invests a lot into their employees. Best Buy has a reputation for retaining their talent and is widely recognized for superior service. Highly trained sales professionals, like the members found at Best Buy stores, have become a unique resource in the consumer electronics industry, where technology is changing at an unprecedented rate, and this is a significant source of competitive advantage for Best Buy (Hill & Jones, 2013, pC23). Currently, Best Buy has recently gone through an organizational change due to the departure of CEO Brian Dunn, U.S. retail chief Mike Vitelli, and chief administrative officer Tim Sheehan. New CEO, Hubert Joly, is in the process of outlining new strategies that will strengthen operations and financial performance. He has stated that he will continue to build on their strong customer service model and their multi-channel shopping experience (Best Buy News Release, 2012 November 13). While this falls in stride with Best Buy’s previous strategy, Joly has also stated that Best Buy has been slow in capturing their fair share of the online channel. This leads me to my first recommendation, having a larger e-commerce presence. While Best Buy can’t duplicate their high-level customer service experience found in-store they can expand on sales by offering a broad range of products online. From here, customers can be invited to visit stores in person for services that may aide in the set-up and installation of products purchased online. I also recommend that Best Buy address their issues with outstanding debt by temporarily halting expansion and focus on their current strengths. While acquisitions have been very profitable for Best Buy, they may want to slow down temporarily as the economy starts to recover and consumer spending slowly begins to increase. While Best Buy has faced a lot of hardship in recent years, they also have made smart strategic decisions that have kept them pliable. Best Buy’s new leadership has a lot to work with and should also introduce fresh organizational change that will help propel Best Buy into profitable territory. References Best Buy News Release. The Causes and Effects of Child Abuse Essays The Causes and Effects of Child Abuse Essay The Causes and Effects of Child Abuse Essay Day by twenty-four hours the safety and good being of some kids across the state are threatened by kid maltreatment and disregard. Child maltreatment is making injury to child intentionaly or non provides the indispensable demands for the kid. Abuse kid can be in physical, emotional, sexual in signifier or disregard. Each signifier has its different features. Causes of child maltreatment can be parents causes, ecological causes or child jobs. Parents causes involves parent who have background of emotional want, unaware of difference between subject and maltreatment, and isolated from the community. Teenage or individual parent besides can harm their kids because they lack experience in raising kids. Ecological causes which are related the environment surround the kid. For illustration, poorness, overcrowding, substance maltreatment, and jobs in matrimony. Child causes include child disablement and demand of particular demands. Child maltreatment has great impa ct on kid s life, damaging a childaa‚Â ¬a„?s ego regard, ability to hold healthy relationships, and ability to map at place, at work and at school. The Causes and Effects of Child Abuse Child maltreatment is one of the major issues that bring the attending of full state. Several organisations formed because it is non merely an person or familial job. It takes different signifiers, physical or psychological ill-treatment of kids. Harmonizing to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC ) define child maltreatment as any act or series of Acts of the Apostless of committee or skip by a parent or other health professional that consequences in injury, possible for injury, or menace of injury to a kid ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.cdc.gov/violanceprevention/pdf/CM-FactSheet-a.pdf ) The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act ( CAPTA ) define child maltreatment and disregard as any recent act or failure to move on the portion of a parent or caretaker who result in decease, serious physical or emotional injury, sexual maltreatment or development ( What is Child Abuse and Neglect, 2008, para.2 ) . Every twelvemonth 1000000s of kids suffer from different type of kid maltreatment. Most child maltreatment consequences from effort to penalize or command the kid. Parents try to penalize their kids when they are making something incorrect and to avoid botching the kid, but these efforts will increase to bring forth physical injury to the kid. Therefore we have to separate between physical subject and physical maltreatment. The most common manner to separate physical penalty from maltreatment is by the presence or absence of physical hurt. It is of import to acknowledge that most parents do non desire to crush their kids. Virtually all parents feel regret after such an incident and most believe physical penalty is non an effectual path to increase conformity, larning or regard for the parent ( Durrant, 1996, p.186 ) . In 2001, an estimated 3 million kids were reported to province Child Protective Service ( CPS ) bureaus as suspected victim of maltreatment and disregard. One million kids were confirmed victim of ill-treatment ( physical maltreatment, disregard, sexual maltreatment, medical disregard, psychological maltreatment, other maltreatments ) , with another 4 million involved in referrals to Child Protective Services ( National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information, 2003a ; 2003b ) . Three fourths of the culprits were health professionals, and an extra one ten percent were relations. However, merely about one half of the kid maltreatment and neglect study are investigated nationally, and on mean merely about tierce of the probe find grounds of kid maltreatment and disregard ( Potts A ; Mandleco, 2007, P 1208 ) . Some people believe that the kid abused by stringers merely, but the truth that the kid can be abused by parent, a friend of parent, vicinity, or even a household m ember. This essay paper on the causes and effects of kid maltreatment will include types of kid maltreatment and clinical manifestation can be seen in each type, causes and effects of kid maltreatment. There are four signifiers of kid maltreatment that is neglect, physical maltreatment, emotional maltreatment and sexual maltreatment. The most common signifier of kid maltreatment is neglect. Harmonizing to Longman dictionary neglect is pay deficient attending to, or ignore . It means parents or health professionals fail to supply the of import demands for their kids. Neglecting the kid can be noticed if the kid deficiencies of hygiene, dresses apparels which is dirty, old, and inappropriate for age and conditions, often absents from school, ever ill and no medical aid provided, malnourished and isolated from others. These marks of disregard are largely observed by people who are ever with close contact to child like the instructor, physicians, nurses and neighbors. They are often the 1s who notice, fishy and study kid disregard. Disregard has three signifiers which are physical disregard, emotional disregard and educational disregard. Physical disregard is the most abuse noticed a mong kids. Physical disregard can be seen in many ways for illustration if the parent non provides supervising, repetition shuttling of kid from one family to another for a twenty-four hours or hebdomad at a clip, non supplying equal nutrient for their kids, apparels, house, non seeking medical attention for a serious wellness job or non giving the kid his intervention. Emotional disregard includes inattention to child s demand of fondness and emotional support, expose kid to extreme spousal maltreatment, allowing the kid to utilize drugs and imbibe intoxicant, garbage of medical aid for kid with psychological jobs and using high outlook that is inappropriate for kid s age and degree of development. Educational disregard can be if the parent refuses to inscribe the kid in school, failure to supply the indispensable acquisition demands and let frequent absence from school. The 2nd type of kid maltreatment is physical maltreatment which is the most clear and has a immense physical consequence on the kid. Physical maltreatment should ever be suspected when there is an hurt that can non be explained, or when the history provided is incongruous with the physical findings or the kid s developmental degree. Intuition should besides be aroused when the health professional claims the hurt was self-inflected, inflected by a sibling or when there is a hold in seeking medical services ( Potts A ; Mandleco,2007, P 1211 ) . There are certain clinical manifestations can be observed in kids who are abused physically which is unexplained contusions or wales that appear in assorted phases of mending frequently in clustered forms that reflect the forms of the articles used to bring down hurt, unexplained Burnss particularly on the colloidal suspensions, thenars, back, or annular ( on natess or genitalias ) , unexplained breaks to the skull, nose, or facial construct ion ; multiple or coiling break ; or disruptions and legion break in assorted phases of healing and bald spots on the scalp ( Ashwill A ; Droske, 1997, P 1287 ) . A 3rd type of kid maltreatment is emotional maltreatment. Among all different kid maltreatment, emotional maltreatment is the hardest type to place. Harmonizing to American Humane, Emotional maltreatment of a kid is normally defined as a form of behavior by parents or health professionals that can earnestly interfere with a kid s cognitive, emotional, psychological, or societal development ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.americanhumane.org/aboutus/newsroom/fact-sheets/emotional-abuse.html ) . Emotional maltreatment occur when parents disregarding and mortifying the kid, insulating the kid from the household, verbally assailing the kid, endangering the kid, rejecting kid s value and petition, seting higher outlook on the kid and exposing the kid to household or community force. The clinical manifestations which can be observed on a kid who is emotionally abused are speech jobs, slowdowns in physical development, failure to boom and hyperactive or disruptive behavior. The last type of kid maltreatment is sexual maltreatment which is the least often reported of kid maltreatment. Harmonizing to ( Potts A ; Mandleco,2007 ) Sexual maltreatment is defined as exploitative sexual act ( s ) imposed on a kid who lacks the emotional, cognitive, or maturational development to cover with the actions ( Giardino, Brown, A ; Giardino, 2003 ) . Sexual maltreatment can be in different ways which are coercing the kid to prosecute in sexual activities, exposing the kid genitalias, sexual contact with the kid, incident exposure of genitalias to a kid, and physical contact to child genitalias. Everybody believes that the misss are more frequently abused sexually, but the fact that both misss and male childs are sexually abused. Surveies have shown those sexual maltreatment victims are normally between 6 and 9 old ages of age. Ashwill made it clear that kids will demo some physical marks such as difficulty walking or posing, torn, stained or bloody underclothing, h urting, swelling or itchiness of genitalias, hurting on micturition, contusions, shed blooding or lacerations affecting the external genital organ, vagina, or anal country and inordinate onanism ( Ashwill A ; Droske, 1997, P 1289 ) . Understanding causes of kid maltreatment is of import to turn to the job in order to forestall it. Specialists and experts who evaluated a bused kid s environment and household background have come out with three causes for kid maltreatment which are parental causes, ecological causes and kid jobs. Parental causes include parents who are really immature and deficiency of experience of taking attention for kids are more likely to pretermit kid s demand. For illustration ; teenage parent or individual parent neer learned the accomplishments necessary for good parenting. Although, parents who suffer many jobs and they can non command their choler which will bring down their kids by mistreating them physically. On the other manus, parents who were abused when they were kids are more likely to mistreat their ain kids excessively. It is similar rhythm of force and maltreatment. Besides, some parents raise their kids same the manner as they rose even if parents were abused. Some parents non distinguish subject from maltreatment which lead to physically mistreat their kids in order to learn them the right things. Parents who physically abuse their partners can besides mistreat their kids. At same clip, parents who suffer from mental upset, anxiousness or depression can non take right determination for themselves, either for their kids. Ecological causes involve mistreating drug and intoxicant by parents. Parents who are drunk they can non believe decently for the demands of their kids. Besides they are unrealistic in their behaviour which can take to mistreat their kids without even experiencing that they are making so. Some surveies show that poorness drama major function in mistreating kids. As the parents face fiscal troubles, they can non supply kid s demand. Besides, those parents normally isolated and deficiency of societal support. On the other manus, if twosomes have job in their matrimony that may bring down their kids emotionally. Some parents are cognizant they are maltreating a kid but are unable to halt. Other opprobrious parents literally hate kids or are disgusted by them. The kid s demand, wateriness, shouting, or dirty nappies are intolerable to the parent. Abusive female parents tend to believe their kids are deliberately raging them. In many instances, troubled parents expect the kid to love the m and do them happy. When the kid can non run into such unrealistic demands, the parent react with deadly angry. Such parents are more likely to physically mistreat their kids ( Coon, 2004, p 154 ) . Child jobs include disabled kids. Lovingness of kid with particular demands is hard and need household and community support. Some parents ignore the demands for the kid which lead to mistreating kid s rights. All types of kid maltreatment regardless the causes ; impact the kid by some manner. The effects of kid maltreatment vary depending on the type of kid maltreatment. Some of these effects are physical and other are emotional or psychological. Surveies show that sexual and emotional maltreatment has the major impact on kid. Effectss can be classified to short term effects and long term effects. Short term effects can easy observe and the marks of mistreating show in short period. For illustration ; lesion, Burnss or break that occur after physical maltreatment, which healed after seeking medical intervention. Child will demo some sexual behaviours include sexual drama with dolls. Child will be aggressive, fright of parents, fright to travel place, and isolated from public. Child will contend to other pupil in category. Child may hold trouble in address and can non show feelings. Child who has been abused by his parent will non swear them to supply physical and emotional demands, which finally lead to deficiency of trust to other people in the community. Long term effects are marks that hard to observe at beginning of mistreating incidents and will come on with the developmental procedure of the kid which lead it to happen after long clip. Almost it will happen in grownup age if kid did non seek medical aid. For illustration ; the grownup will hold trouble to set up normal relationships with other. Adult survive from kid maltreatment, can hold unexplained marks of fright, anxiousness and depression. Adult subsister of sexual maltreatment can mistreat other kids which is the rhythm of mistreating. Besides the grownup may endure from sexual familial disease. The grownup will hold trouble to show feeling, and may turn to substance maltreatment ( intoxicant or drugs ) . The grownup may try to suicide. To sum up, kid maltreatment is world-wide job impacting kids from birth to 18 old ages of age. There are different types for kid maltreatment which is neglect, emotional maltreatment, physical maltreatment, and sexual maltreatment. There are three chief causes for kid maltreatment which is parent causes, ecological causes, and kid jobs. Based on causes many effects can be observed on the kid which affect kid emotionally, physically and societal development. In my sentiment observing the early marks of maltreatment will stop farther injury to child, better opportunity for recovery, and appropriate intervention will be provided for the kid. Since the household is the nucleus of love and attention for the kid, it is of import to convey their attending and highlight the causes and effects of kid maltreatment, so they can play important function in halting the affair. Therefore, proper consciousness of the community plays an of import function in forestalling this job from traveling farther.

A Project Report On Marketing Plan For Kudu is a Saudi Arabia

Kudu is a Saudi Arabia based restaurant chain with over 327 store outlets across the country (Kudu, 2017). The restaurant was established with the aim to offer a unique dining experience for the people of Saudi Arabia. The restaurant has a highly trained staff along with great infrastructure to maintain the standard of services in terms of quality, efficiency and reliability. The restaurant has received ISO and HACCP SQF recognition for its consistency of service standards (Kudu, 2017). The customers can watch their orders being processed and rest assured that the food is being prepared in a neat, clean and hygienic manner. The goal of the company is to â€Å"offer a unique dining experience to the customers through quality and fresh food of restaurant† (Kudu, 2017). The restaurant has excelled in its services by maintaining its service standard and procuring fresh and quality food ingredients on daily basis. Thus, the restaurant has developed a sustainable business model that would ensure the longevity of the business and assist to reach its goals. Kudu has strategically positioned itself as a restaurant that offers fresh food to its customers through its open kitchen tradition where customers can watch the preparation of the recipes being cooked and packed (Kudu, 2017). The restaurant has adopted various marketing strategies to promote its products in the market of Saudi Arabia. The restaurant has a dedicated website through which customers can access all the detailed information on Kudu related to its menu, products, stores, quality services and required details. The restaurant also displays its latest products and offers through its website. The customers can choose from a wide range of offers such as combo offers, meal offers and the festive offers that are being served during an occasion. The core focus of the company is quality, reliable and efficient services and it has been able to maintain it over a long period of time (Kudu, 2017).   The targeted customers of Kudu include men & women, students & executives, youth an d adults, friends & families, who can enjoy the delicious breakfasts, lunch and dinner at the restaurant (Kudu, 2017). Kudu may have been able to create a trust among the customers through its quality and reliable services, yet it needs to expand its market in order to grow its revenue and profitability. The restaurant targets diversified customers including men & women, students & executives, youth and adults, friends & families. The restaurant also offers home delivery to the customers to increase its reach ability and overall sales revenue. The restaurant has great opportunity to target offices in the country. Another identified opportunity for the restaurant is introducing meal campaign for the professionals and executives. The plan proposes to offer meal for the executives and professionals at their doorsteps during their lunch time. After studying the marketing strategies of Kudu, it was identified that the company has a great opportunity to target the market of corporate and professionals (Egan, 2007). The executives and professionals are busy people who do not have time to go out for their meals during lunch hours. Since Kudu has established its restaurant store outlets across the country that serves a diversified range of customers, therefore, it is not able to serve the needs of these busy professionals. In order to offer great services, a brand must take care the needs and wants of its customers (Luther, 2011). Thus, a marketing plan would be developed that would aim to target this group of people. Marketing mix element is one of the concepts of marketing that is being mostly used by the company to develop their marketing plan by analyzing product, price, promotion and place (Lamb, Hair and McDaniel, 2008). Product: The product comprises of two components that includes meal combo and doorstep services at the offices of the professionals. The meal would comprise of three components including one main course (burger/sandwich/rice beef), one drink (Coke/fanta/sprite) and any one out of salad/fries/sweet dish. The menu would be different for every day so that the customers do not get bored of eating the same food. Now the meal would be served during the lunch hours of the professionals at the doorstep of their offices so that they do not have to travel to the restaurant. This would save their order time and travelling time. Thus, the concept of innovation is being applied to create reliable, consistent and efficient services. Price: Pricing strategy depends upon the paying capacity of the consumers (Kubicki, 2015)). In this situation economy pricing strategy would be appropriate so that executives can easily avail this service (Schindler and Schindler, 2011). Since a large group of people would be availing this service, therefore, the cost of the product would also reduce and the economies of scale would be easily achieved. Promotion: In the changing business environment context, digital marketing has become a popular marketing strategy and is being commonly deployed by the companies. Kudu could also use this strategy to reach its target audience. Social media marketing, email marketing and search engine marketing are the most commonly used approaches for this marketing. In this scenario, Kudu could utilize email marketing tactics in order to reach a larger market share. Further, in order to attract larger number of audience, the restaurant could offer discounts and offers to the executives (McDonald, 2007). Place: Since the plan has proposed office delivery of meal orders for the executives, therefore, importance must be given to timely delivery of the services. The delay would cause trouble for the customers as their lunch hours are fixed and they cannot afford to waste their time. In order to implement the plan, the company must develop effective marketing strategies to attract the customers (Percy, 2008). The product has already been developed comprising of executive meal for the customers. Now communicating about this service to the target customer is an important aspect of the plan (Shimp, 2008). Email marketing is one of the most effective strategies that is used to directly reach the potential customers. The data of the potential customers could be collected through various methods. After the email ids have been collected, an appropriate email needs to be developed that highlights the core message of the campaign. I need to analyze the impact that two trade blocs have on globalization. To analyze the NAFTA (The North American Free Trade Agreement) trade bloc as well as CEFTA (Central European Free Trade Agreement) - Essay Example NAFTA is the short for North American Free Trade Agreement, with partners including United States, Canada and Mexico. Officially agreed upon in 1992, the concept already had been conceived during 1980s when US President Ronald Reagan expressed his desire to form a unified North American market (Baliles, 2010, Para. 1). CEFTA (Central European Free Trade Agreement), also signed in 1992, on the other hand is an association formed between the non-Euro nations, which are mainly concentrated around Central and South-Eastern Europe. Initially comprising fourteen nations, the number of membership gradually receded to five with some of them moving into the Euro zone. The five member nations are Poland, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia) (Pal, n.d., p. 1). Purpose behind the formation of either trade bloc had been promotion of economic growth over the respective regions. Consolidation of nations to form an entity actually facilitates in gaining market and barg aining powers among the international community. These were indeed, the fundamental objectives which played in the minds of the founders while shaping their ideas Consolidation of the NAFTA has resulted to an agricultural boom over the region, which has added to the aggregate agricultural supplies of the world. Moreover, Canada had almost been unnoticed prior to its incorporation, but the world soon realized the nation’s immense investment potentials once that its presence was felt. Member nations of CEFTA too are primarily dependent upon agriculture. Given their enhanced power, the CEFTA nations now export their produce more efficiently and in a manner so as to trigger widespread market demand (Pal, n.d., p. 3). Hence, they too have added to aggregate agricultural products, besides expanding the consumption goods basket.
